9th Grade Honors English Summer 2013

One of the goals of the Mayfair Academic Program is to move students on to more sophisticated literature, so by the time they take their AP test in literature (in spring of their senior year), they will have a solid background in a variety of genres. To this end, each student is required to complete summer reading.

The summer between eighth and ninth grade, students are required to read the following books:
The Help, by Kathryn Stockett
The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton

Students will be tested on these books the first week of the new school year.

If you have any questions about the literary selections, you are welcome to contact Ms. Amy Jacobs (ajacobs[at]busd.k12.ca.us) or Ms. Kristy Brown (krbrown[at]busd.k12.ca.us).

During the school year, students will read specific books from the ninth curriculum as well as selected readings completed on their own time. This reading load is consistent with similar Honors English classes in other advanced programs.
